X-SESSION
Audiobooks demand vocal versatility of the narrator, with listeners expecting to understand which character is speaking at any given moment. Thankfully, your voice is an incredibly flexible instrument, and there are so many possibilities to the vocal shifts you can make to portray each character. Care must be taken to cast your characters in a way that honors the writing, enhances the listening experience, and protects your own vocal health. We'll discuss the different ranges and resonance spaces of the human voice, and workshop differentiating dialogue between a group of characters.
Takeaway 1 - Discuss and workshop vocal range, timbre, placement, cadence, attitude, and motivation.
Takeaway 2 - Understand the appropriate casting of characters in each book based on the tone and genre.
Takeaway 3 - Preserve your vocal longevity, and find subtlety while maintaining clarity.
